Sally is a Professor and past Head of the Department of Biochemistry in the School of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Otago in New Zealand. She is a Fellow of the Faculty of Science of the Royal College of Pathologists Australasia.
Sally performed her PhD studies at the Christchurch School of Medicine and her postdoctoral studies at the Gladstone Institute of Cardiovascular Disease in San Francisco where she became interested in the basic biology of Lp(a). Her laboratory investigates the genetics, proteomics and metabolism of Lp(a) utilizing cellular and mouse models and samples from human cohorts. Her work is funded by the Royal Society of New Zealand Marsden Fund, the Health Research Council and the National Heart Foundation of New Zealand. She has supervised many MSc and PhD students and teaches into the undergraduate programmes for biochemistry, medicine, genetics, nutrition and medical laboratory science. She is a past director of the BBiomedSc programme at Otago.
