Reducing LDL-C to <55 mg/dL (<1.4 mmol/L) in people with coronary artery disease (CAD) does not fully offset their risk of major adverse cardiovascular events associated with elevated Lp(a) level. This is the key finding from a multicentre retrospective observational study of 1581 Japanese patients with CAD (Lp(a)-JAPAN) which compared MACE (cardiac-caused death + nonfatal MI + coronary revascularisation in non-culprit segments) according to Lp(a) level (<30, ≥30 and <50 mg/dL and ≥50 mg/dL) and LDL-C level (<55 mg/dL vs ≥55 mg/dL), eight weeks after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).
