Elevated Lp(a) levels are associated with an increased risk of proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) and may be a useful screening tool for this complication in patients with diabetes. This is the conclusion of researchers who assessed the association between Lp(a) and diabetic retinopathy (DR) subtypes (non-proliferative, proliferative, and diabetic macular oedema) in a sample of 242,391 patients (≥18 years) with data in the TriNetX global federated health research network.
