The Brussels International Declaration on Lp(a) testing and management has been published in Atherosclerosis, as a clear roadmap for policymakers to implement practical, life-changing policies and systemic reforms focused on the importance of Lp(a) as an independent causal risk factor for cardiovascular (CV) disease.

Lp(a) testing is cost effective in high income countries

A new cost effectiveness analysis of Lp(a) testing for primary prevention, carried out for the FH Europe Foundation as part of the Lp(a) International Taskforce initiative, has demonstrated the potential for major cost savings across 11 high income countries*, together with reductions in cardiovascular events.

Waist-to-hip ratio modifies Lp(a) risk of ASCVD

Waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) significantly modifies the risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) associated with Lp(a). This is the finding from an analysis of data from 4652 participants in the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA). 

OCEAN(a)-DOSE trial shows olpasiran reduces OxPL-apoB

Olpasiran significantly reduces apoB-associated oxidised phospholipids (OxPL-apoB), according to results of a pre-specified analysis of data from the Phase 2 OCEAN(a)-DOSE trial.

Anti-inflammatory treatments may provide additional therapeutic benefits for individuals with high Lp(a), suggest Professor Winfried Marz (pictured left) and colleagues in the light of results from the Ludwigshafen Risk and Cardiovascular Health (LURIC) study evaluating the effects of Lp(a), hsCRP, and interleukin-6 (IL-6) levels on cardiovascular mortality. 

UK lipid guidance recommends Lp(a) measurement in enhanced lipid profiling

New UK lipid guidance recommends Lp(a) measurement to be included in enhanced lipid profiling for patients with a personal or family history of premature atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD), first-degree relatives with raised serum Lp(a), familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) or other genetic dyslipidaemias, calcific aortic valve stenosis, or a moderate (10-15%) 10-year risk of a cardiovascular event.
