Professor Anthony Wierzbicki is consultant in metabolic medicine and chemical pathology and director of the lipid unit at Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospitals. His work on cardiometabolic risk factors has led to risk appointment as honorary Professor of Cardiometabolic Disease at King’s College London and award of the fellowships of the American Heart Association and National Academy of Biochemistry (USA). He has published 300 papers on atherosclerosis and cardiovascular risk factors. He has sat on many UK government panels in cardiovascular medicine including for the National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence where he was clinical advisor on the Familial hypercholesterolaemia (FH) guideline (CG71; 2009) and chaired the lipids and cardiovascular disease risk assessment guideline (CG181; 2014); Chronic Heart Failure ((NG106; 2016-18)); Hypertension (NG136; 2017-19) and Chronic Renal Failure (NG203; 2018-21) guidelines. He is the chair of the delivery implementation group for FH for NHS England.
