Brian Tomlinson graduated from the Middlesex Hospital Medical School, University of London, and completed training in internal medicine, Clinical Pharmacology and Clinical Toxicology and completed his MD at University College Hospital, London. He joined The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) in 1990 and became Head of the Division of Clinical Pharmacology in the Department of Medicine and Therapeutics in 2003 and Professor of Medicine and Therapeutics in 2007. He was Honorary Consultant Physician at the Prince of Wales Hospital, Hong Kong from 1990 to 2015.
In 2019 he was appointed as Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the new medical school at Macau University of Science and Technology and Consultant Physician at the University Hospital, Macau. He is Honorary Clinical Professor in the Department of Medicine and Therapeutics at CUHK and Honorary Consultant to the Phase 1 Clinical Trial Centre at CUHK, Hong Kong.
His specialist clinical and research interests include the clinical pharmacology, toxicology and pharmacogenetics of drugs, particularly in the cardiovascular field, and the pathogenesis and treatment of hyperlipidaemia, hypertension, the metabolic syndrome and diabetes. He has been awarded numerous grants for research and has been an investigator in many clinical trials including Phase 1 Clinical Trials and later Phase trials in hyperlipidaemia, hypertension and diabetes. He has published extensively in major journals and has 580 publications listed in the Web of Science Collection and has given numerous invited lectures. He is currently Chair of the Asia-Pacific Federation of the International Atherosclerosis Society (IAS) and former President of the Asian-Pacific Society of Atherosclerosis and Vascular Diseases.
