Professor Marc Dweck is the Chair of Clinical Cardiology, a British Heart Foundation Senior Clinical Research Fellow, and Consultant Cardiologist at the University of Edinburgh and the Edinburgh Heart Centre. His research program is centred around the use of multi-modality imaging (echocardiography, CT, MRI, PET) to improve our understanding of cardiovascular pathophysiology and ultimately to improve patient assessment, care and outcomes. He is a Vice President Elect the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI), Chair of EACVI Accreditation for Computed Tomography and serves on the Editorial Boards of Heart, EHJ Cardiovascular Imaging, Circulation Cardiovascular Imaging, the Journal of Nuclear Cardiology and Circulation.
Professor Dweck’s research has focused on three major areas i) coronary atherosclerosis ii) aortic stenosis and iii) cardiomyopathy. Since starting his research career in 2009 he has published in many of the leading medical, cardiovascular and scientific journals (370 manuscripts, H-index 69) and has been the recipient of numerous national and international research awards (e.g. William W. Parmley Award, Journal American College of Cardiology 2020 & 2012; BMJ Imaging Team of the Year 2017; Michael Davies Early Career Award, British Cardiovascular Society 2016; Sir Jules Thorn Award for Biomedical Research 2015; British Heart Foundation Outstanding Investigator Award 2015;). He is the Chief Investigator of two randomised controlled trials of novel therapeutic strategies in aortic stenosis (SALTIRE 2 NCT02132026 & EVOLVED NCT03094143) and Chair of the BHF/NIHR Partnership in Heart Valve Disease.
