Expert guidance recommends that Lp(a) test results are reported in the units provided by the laboratory and conversion between units (mg/dL and nmol/L) is avoided, though a conversion factor of 2.5 is commonly used to convert from mg/dL to nmol/L. Now, an analysis of test results in the Lp(a)HORIZON cardiovascular outcomes study has compared the conversion factor of 2.5 with that derived from the Copenhagen General Population Study (CGPS) formula (2.18 x Lp(a)(mg/dL) -3.83) to obtain an Lp(a) value in nmol/L.
